Beeing told by ai this is the best fish and chips in Dunedin. Well, this may be true but this is not the best in NZ (personal taste). The breading was not crispy enough though the fish was good, the fries ordinary. Service was excellent.

The best fish and chips we’ve had in years
We stumbled upon The Best Cafe in Dunedin and what a find! We ordered the blue cod meal and the pan-fried fish of the day (gurnard) and were blown away.
We were greeted by Lily, who was lovely and welcoming. We later learned she also helped prepare our meals - what a talent! The fish and chips were hands down some of the best we’ve eaten in many years. Fresh, full of flavour, and reminiscent of the fish and chips of our childhoods, back when it was done properly.
If you’re in Dunedin and looking for exceptional fish, look no further. Five stars well deserved.

Best Kiwi Fish & Chips
We spent the day in Dunedin off a cruise, the Best Cafe was easy to locate, staff are super friendly and very welcoming.
Such a cute retro restaurant which also has take away options.
Fish was so fresh, I had the Blue Cod, which came with chips and a lovely salad.
I added a kiwi hotdog and mussels.
I wish I could say this was my local, but unfortunately I’m from Australia.

I liked the look of the place, it's split into take away and an eat-in restaurant. Looks very cute and vintage. I only took take aways so i can't speak for the restaurant.
Got chips and blue cod, half a scoop of chips was plenty and tasted good and crispy, the fish was fresh but very small for the 13$ price.

We arrived without a reservation and were greeted warmly. Great staff, lovely fish and chips and loved the bottomless tea. Definitely recommend
