A Cozy Haven of Art, Flavour, and Warm Hospitality
My recent visit to Modaks Cafe in Dunedin was an absolute delight from start to finish.
The atmosphere is simply charming. The space is beautiful and cosy, filled with an eclectic and vibrant collection of artwork displayed for sale. It creates a uniquely warm and inspiring environment that feels more like visiting a creative friend's lounge than just a coffee shop.
The coffee was expertly crafted, rich and satisfying. The Shakshuka was a flavour powerhouse, perfectly spiced and cooked with evident care. The Big Breakfast was equally impressive, generous in portion and created with quality ingredients

My favourite cafe in Dunedin. Very special space. A unique atmosphere… cafe mixed with art!
Owners are so lovely, very down to earth and willing to have a chat! One of them is an artist and a lot of his work is hanging up on the walls which is impressive.
Great coffee and food. I wanted to try the magic maize- which is a South African dish- something new… I enjoyed :) reasonable prices too and quick service.
Thanks for having me. Feel very welcome here. Could spend hours here- bring my laptop and book.

Haven't been to Modak's for quite a while and I think it is under new management perhaps as there are a lot of changes. Different art on the wall and menu.
The cheese rolls were very good
Ordered a hot chocolate which was grand.
Salmon eggs bene was good
Big breakfast was mean and very filling
Loaded wedges were delightful
Maize magic was a bit of an acquired taste, not at all like regular porridge. Staff member approached when she saw that it wasn't eaten and offered to make a Granola cup instead which was very lovely ❤️
There was no music playing which gave a bit of an awkward vibe.
It was put on upon request.
Modak's used to be famous for its milkshakes but they have changed and are a lot smaller and thinner. I would not get one again.
